The Dirt on Personal Care

The Dirt on Personal Care

If you're mindful of what goes in your body, you probably are (or should be) mindful of what goes on your body. Our tastebuds often give us an accurate read on the health of the foods we consume, and coupled with widespread public knowledge of nutrition, most can make well-informed decisions about food choices. But when it comes to the products we consume but can't taste, whether that be through the skin on our feet, hands, scalp, etc... (think sunscreen, soap, shampoo, deodorant) our other senses aren't as acutely able to detect unhealthy substances. Not to mention, there is much less attention, or even public information, regarding the harmful chemical compounds laden in mainstream products.

Luckily, more and more people, companies, and nonprofits are becoming aware of this issue and turning the tide through research, educational marketing, and empowered action. Read on to learn how you can take part, and Avasol's pledge to be a part of the solution.

The Environmental Working Group

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), "personal care products are manufactured with 10,500+ unique chemical ingredients, some of which are known or suspected carcinogens, toxic to the reproductive system or known to disrupt the endocrine system."

Although some companies make products that are safe to use, others use carcinogenic and developmental toxins. Sunscreen is a leading culprit, as most brands, even the "natural" ones are often laden with harmful chemicals.

Given the lack of regulation on most of the chemicals that go into our personal care, The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has stepped up with its Skin Deep ® program to ensure the safety and efficacy of products on the market. The EWG's team of scientists conduct rigorous tests and health studies to ascertain the composition and effects of ingredients in tens of thousands of products on the market.

EWG's Skin Deep Hazard Scoring

from 1-10, 1 being best and 10 being worst...

AVASOL SCORES A 1!

You might ask... What does that mean?

The Skin Deep® ingredient hazard score, from 1 to 10, reflects known and suspected hazards linked to the ingredients.
