A Science-Based Guide to Skin Cancer Prevention

TIPS FOR SKIN CANCER PREVENTION

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and here at Avasol we care about protecting your skin!

With over 5 million cases diagnosed in the United States each year, skin cancer is America’s most common cancer. Luckily, it's also one of the most preventable.

To make sure you get the skin protection you need, for this month we're offering 15% our entire site. Use code SCA15 at checkout!

Tip #1: Cover Up!

Anytime you're going outside for a prolonged period of time, make sure to cover up using rash guards, hats, long sleeves and/or wetsuits, and put Avasol wherever your suit doesn’t cover! Make sure to choose SPF-rated suits. We love the ones from The Seea!

Avasol Sunscreen acts as a mineral barrier, blocking UVA (aging) and UVB (burning) rays. Over time, exposure to these harmful rays can cause skin damage. Avasol not only protects the skin against sunburn and temporarily delays premature ageing. It also nourishes the skin with its premium, USDA Certified 100% biobased ingredients.

Tip #2: Re-apply!

You have to know yourself and how well your skin tolerates the sun, but in our experience sun-burns develop when you forget to re-apply! So pay attention to how long you've been in the sun, and remember that all our sunscreen products have a 80-minute water-resistance rating.

Tip #3: Choose the right SPF for your skin and activities

We recommed the Cream (insert link to shop) for daywear, and the SPF 30 Stick (insert link to shop) for playing in the water or more harsh sun conditions. For when you need the strongest protection (We're looking at you surfers!) go for the SPF 50+ Stick (insert link to shop).

Tip #4: Eat SPF's - Sun Protecting Foods

Did you know that your diet could affect the way your skin responds to sunlight? Research studies are coming out suggesting that Diets high in processed seed oils weaken the skin's ability to produce melanin (Yamada et. al), while whole-food plant-based diets strengthen our skin's natural defense (Solway et. al). This is because highly processed diets often contain saturated fatty acids and linoleic acid, which decrease melanin levels, whereas plant based diets are rich in antioxidants and micronutrients, which reinforce the production of melanin.

Here is a guide to all the best SPF's (sun protecting foods!)

Tip #5: Choose a natural Sunscreen with Antioxidants

Avasol is crafted with raw and natural ingredients containing antioxidants that help promote beautiful skin. The Cinnamon and Vanilla lend our products their incredible smell, and antioxidant-rich vitamin E and Rosemary Extract, Buriti Fruit Oil and Red Raspberry Seed Oil promotes an even, glowing complexion. Since our skin is our largest organ, what we put ON our bodies is just as important as what we put IN our bodies.
